10 Greatest In-Ring Alliances In WWE Royal Rumble History
9. The Nexus - 2011
The Nexus never had a fair shake of the stick in WWE. Despite receiving tremendous crowd responses and initially coming off as a threatening group of "rookies," they were soon on the wrong end of John-Cena-Wins-LOL booking. Not only had 'The Master of Thuganomics' embarrassed them time and time again on the mic, but he also managed to defeat every single member in a handicap match.
Would The Nexus have a better showing at the 2011 Royal Rumble?
Sort of.
After imploding, the group split up into two separate factions. There was 'The Corre' and 'The New Nexus,' the latter of which was basically a group of heaters for CM Punk. 'The Straight Edge Superstar' and his cronies found themselves claiming real estate until (you guessed it) 'Big Match John' came out on a mission to eliminate them all.
No twist here. Cena came out and whipped all of their asses.
Once again, The Nexus was treated as an innocuous glitch by top performers. Such was a shame, as he didn't even go on to the final four. Regardless of the group's fate, though, the early part of the 2011 Rumble consisted of a time when The Nexus was momentarily given a shot to look good in the ring.
