However, it's another thing entirely to come back when it's uncertain if the wrestler in question will ever make it back inside the ring. The Rock hadn't wrestled in 8 years when he stepped inside the ring for WrestleMania 28's main event match with John Cena. The year prior, he had returned to WWE as the host of WrestleMania 27 on an episode of Raw, delighting the fans in attendance to the point of near hysteria as they weren't sure if Dwayne would ever come home to the place that helped make him a star.
He had distanced himself from wrestling, had stopped going by The Rock primarily in his successful film career and seemed to be flourishing without WWE in his life. He hadn't completely cut himself off, but it wouldn't have been unlikely if he never stepped foot inside the ring again.
