Comebacks are pretty frequent in professional wrestling. Coming back from a injury in the Royal Rumble or popping up on Monday Night Raw, returning to a company after years of absence to a gigantic pop; these are all things that happen fairly regularly in the constantly moving and changing world of the wrestling industry. It is expected every year that there will be a few major return pops within the world of wrestling, it is a normalised part of being a wrestling fan and it's something that never gets old.

However, it's another thing entirely to come back when it's uncertain if the wrestler in question will ever make it back inside the ring. Whether that's because of years of life outside the squared circle, addiction issues or serious health problems, there are some wrestlers who take significant time away and it's unclear if they'll be able to work in the ring again. Yet, all of these 10 individuals defied circumstances and returned to do what they love, making fans delight in the process.

Regardless if these comebacks lasted for a few months, a few years or are still going today, all of these returns are either awe inspiring, unspeakably emotional, deeply unlikely or a combination of the three...

10. The Rock

The Rock hadn't wrestled in 8 years when he stepped inside the ring for WrestleMania 28's main event match with John Cena. The year prior, he had returned to WWE as the host of WrestleMania 27 on an episode of Raw, delighting the fans in attendance to the point of near hysteria as they weren't sure if Dwayne would ever come home to the place that helped make him a star.

He had distanced himself from wrestling, had stopped going by The Rock primarily in his successful film career and seemed to be flourishing without WWE in his life. He hadn't completely cut himself off, but it wouldn't have been unlikely if he never stepped foot inside the ring again. But he did come back and it still provides shivers down the spine to hear that return pop, before fans even knew that they had two WrestleMania main events of his left to witness.

While The Rock has said that he has retired from professional wrestling, the possibility of one final comeback to face his cousin Roman Reigns at WrestleMania cannot be ruled out. As we know from his previous comeback, there's no doubt that he'll live up to the hype.
