10 Greatest WWE Cruiserweight Wrestlers Ever
1. Rey Mysterio
Wrestling guru Dave Meltzer recently nominated Mysterio as the most influential performer of recent years, and it’s easy to see where he’s coming from. Rey has had an astonishing career in any way you want to measure it: impact, popularity, commercial appeal, longevity, you name it. He made his US debut 25 years ago, and he’s still going strong.
Mysterio was a major part of WCW’s critically lauded Cruiserweight division, where he put on legendary matches with the likes of Eddie Guerrero (1997’s Halloween Havoc being an all time classic), but the jump to WWE seemed a bridge too far to many.
He took a while to win over Vince, but his talent was undeniable (he’s also a huge hit with the kids and a merch shifter, which obviously helps). Mysterio’s consistency is mind boggling, maintaining his high flying style for such a long time, and he has been rewarded appropriately by the company, with World titles and even a Royal Rumble win to his name.
At time of writing, Mysterio’s future is uncertain (he recently lost his eye at the hands of Seth Rollins in a match that was better than it had any right to be), but his legacy cannot be questioned.
