The NXT Women’s division was in a state of redevelopment after TakeOver Brooklyn III, with Asuka relinquishing the title through injury before her main roster debut. A new wave of female stars were quickly emerging underneath the Empress Of Tomorrow, and this would be their time to shine.

At the time, Ember Moon, Nikki Cross, Peyton Royce and Kairi Sane held an equally important spot in the division. Their Fatal-4-Way to crown a new champion was not the most anticipated bout on the card, nor should it have been, but this was still an excellent encounter.

Nikki Cross had a largely unsung NXT tenure, never winning gold, but more than held up her end of the bargain in plenty of TakeOver title matches. The fiery intensity in her eyes during this contest added to the quick-paced drama. Peyton Royce was more of a character than wrestler in NXT, but this match allowed her to prove she could definitely hang in the ring, whilst Kairi Sane wet the fans appetite for what was to come in future outings against Shayna Baszler. Nevertheless, Moon was clearly the next breakout women’s star in NXT. She would eventually win the title here with a double Eclipse.

The match flies by, but it is a super fun watch at just under 10 minutes, and it ushered in the next generation of NXT women’s stars with marvelous effect.
