10 Impact Vs. New Japan Matches We Need To See

3. Jake Something vs. Tomohiro Ishii

To go back to Joe Doering vs. Jeff Cobb for just a moment, two big lads having a straight-up fight with one another is something that Japanese wrestling is the best at. The strong-style persona shown in New Japan is why guys like Tomohiro Ishii succeed. He just hits people really, really hard.

Jake Something slots in here beautifully against 'The Stone Pitbull' for this simple reason.

Since his alliance with the former Cody Deaner came to an end, the newly-rechristened Jake Something has slowly become a genuine star in Impact. His challenge of Moose's TNA World Heavyweight Championship a few weeks back was merely the start of his quest.

He's a guy deserving of such an opportunity against the likes of Ishii. While Big Tom has never won the big one in New Japan (damn you, Gedo), he remains one of the promotion's all-time greatest fighters. He doesn't wrestle like he's a big man; he wrestles with spirit.

Jake is the exact same. If he's against a smaller adversary, he'll manhandle them with ease. If they're a bit tougher, he'll make use of his strength. Hell, he's even known to take to the skies on occasion.

He's varied. That's what you need to be in this modern era of wrestling. It's just sadly never enough to combat a stiff Ishii strike.
