Marking turning points in the careers of Edge, Christian, The Hardy Boyz, and the ladder match itself, the No Mercy 1999 'Terri Invitational Tournament' decider is revered for good reason.

Raising the bar for risk, athleticism and danger in a way never seen before at the highest level, the fearless foursome sent their collective stock rocketing through the glass ceiling of the organisation and created a unique selling point for a feud that would ultimately suck in new ECW escapees The Dudley Boyz to redefine tag team wrestling heading into the new millennium.

Attempting and executing stunts way beyond anything ever attempted in ladder matches up to that point, the quartet handed over their physical wellbeing for the good of the cause, with Jeff Hardy in particular suffering for his art to foreshadow how he'd behave time and time again when the stakes (and rungs) were at their highest.

Eye-watering moments included Edge throwing himself into a ladder with a missed Poetry In Motion effort, a crossbody into a ladder that took out both Hardy Boyz, a wicked double dropkick onto a ladder into Matt's crotch and a cavalcade of moves off of stationary ladders that were death-defying and revolutionary for the six month period between this at the WrestleMania 2000 three-team sequel.
