8. American Alpha Will Retain In The End
As mentioned in the previous slide, having the Ascension build some momentum doesn’t mean they should win the Tag Team titles outright.
Instead, reigning champions American Alpha should—and very likely will—retain.
Jason Jordan and Chad Gable are easily the hottest team on the SmackDown roster, but so far, their current stint as champions has yet to truly reflect that. Having won the titles from Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton at the end of last year, they’ve only defended the belts on one occasion—in the obligatory rematch that the Wyatt Family were owed. In fact, they’ve only featured in two other televised matches of any sort in that time, one being that 12-man bout from this past week’s show and the other being a 31-second squashing of Breezango back in January.
Granted, the lack of defences means that their reign is almost up to 50 days already, but it’s hardly the kind of record you’d expect from a battling pair of babyface champions.
Here’s hoping that changes at Elimination Chamber this weekend and they rack up their second successful defence.
