10 Last-Minute WWE Extreme Rules 2017 Rumours You Need To Know
5. Austin Aries Becomes Cruiserweight Champion
The feud between Austin Aries and Neville has been the most heated one in the short history of WWE's cruiserweight division, but it could come to an end on Sunday. For the third straight month, Aries will challenge Neville for the Cruiserweight Championship, and since the show is Extreme Rules, their bout will be a submission match.
Aries returned from injury to challenge Neville for the title at WrestleMania, but came up short there. At Payback, Aries won by DQ but didn't capture the title. It's not going out on a limb to say that if Aries comes up short at Extreme Rules, he'll go to the back of the line, so he'd better lock in the Last Chancery before Neville manages to apply the Rings of Saturn.
Odds look good for Aries - after all, WWE usually likes to keep babyfaces reasonably strong, and a loss here would do "The Greatest Man that Ever Lived" few favors. Plus, Neville's reign has lasted for more than four months and there's an argument to be made for a changing of the guard. The only issue is that if Aries does win, they'll need to have a fourth bout at Great Balls of Fire. That could be enough for Neville to go over here, but Aries is still the more likely winner.
