On Wednesday, The New Day officially broke the record for longest tag team championship reign in WWE history, reaching 489 days with the titles. On Monday, though, they had to get through two triple threat matches in order to hit that mark.

First, they competed against Cesaro and Sheamus and The Club in a bout that was made last week. The New Day won, but during a champagne celebration backstage, they accidentally got some of the beverage on Stephanie McMahon. She angrily booked the champions in a match with Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho, and later, Mick Foley added Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins to the match. Again, The New Day won, cementing the record as theirs.

After all that, it kind of seems like they shouldn't even have to defend the titles at Roadblock, but at Tribute to the Troops, Cesaro and Sheamus earned another shot at the belts. Now, the titles are on the line and the record is no longer a factor.

Smart money says The New Day retain, but anything can happen. WWE loves to invest time in odd couple tag teams like Sheamus and Cesaro, and it usually leads to them getting the titles. Hopefully, cooler heads prevail, and the champions continue their amazing reign.
