10 Matches WWE Could Have Booked For WrestleMania 38
9. Sasha Banks & Bayley (c) Vs. Trish Stratus & Lita
Here’s an upsetting glimpse into how little WWE values their women’s tag team division.
A fatal four-way tag match has been booked for this year’s show where every team involved formed in the last four months. Sasha Banks and Naomi are the longest tenured tag partners in the match and just started teaming again for the first time since February 2016. Five of the eight featured participants are competing with different partners from last WrestleMania’s gauntlet due to talent releases.
Only one (Natalya) is entering with a new partner while her former teammate is still under contract. Another missed WrestleMania 37 because she herself was released in 2020 only to be reinstated. The final two in this year’s match were competing for and defending the RAW and SmackDown Women’s Championships respectively last year.
What a state of affairs.
The bottom line is, Carmella and Zelina Vega haven’t set the world on fire as champions. In the titles’ full lineage, only Sasha Banks and Bayley really brought prestige to them. With the latter’s return timetable initially projected for March, her post-WrestleMania return should’ve been expedited to scoop the belts with ‘The Boss’. As for potential challengers, WWE Hall of Famer Lita was on hand for the Royal Rumble, challenged Becky Lynch for the RAW Women’s Championship at Elimination Chamber and then nothing at WrestleMania? Why? Meanwhile, Lita's B.F.F. Trish Stratus is mixing it up in the ring at recent WWE Live shows in Toronto…
Why hasn’t this generational scrimmage been scheduled yet?
