The Kirifuda Clutch is a variation of the rear-naked choke/sleeper hold used by submission specialists in wrestling, and has its roots in martial arts and MMA. This grounded sleeper hold utilizes a body scissors to increases the pressure of the hold and to keep an opponent in place.

Shayna Baszler is one of the best in the business when it comes to applying the hold. Known as the Submission Magician, the Queen of Spades makes the move look even more vicious and legitimate than anyone who has come before her. Baszler’s history in MMA and being a pioneer of the sport - allowing for women like Ronda Rousey to become a huge star in the UFC - has made the two-time NXT Women’s Champion one of the best wrestlers in the world today.

Along with Baszler, the move has been used by Samoa Joe - who calls it a Coquina Clutch - from his days in TNA all the way up to his time in the WWE. Karrion Kross is another grappler partial to this hold, with his Kross Jacket variation applying both arms around the neck and face.
