10 Most Believable Underdogs In Wrestling Today

9. KUSHIDA

KUSHIDA is one of those names that has has been seemingly overlooked by NXT, an enigma given the prolific resume he forged for himself during his stint in New Japan Pro Wrestling. A stalwart standout of the Junior division, KUSHIDA amassed an astonishing six reigns as NJPW Junior Heavyweight Champion, two Super J Tournament victories, a Super J Cup win, and an additional two reigns as a Junior tag champion and the 2012 Super J Tag Tournament with Alex Shelley, known collectively as the Time Splitters, one of the fastest and most innovative teams of the last twenty years.

KUSHIDA, whether in singles or as a tag, could apparently do no wrong. With a reputation like that, it is admittedly a bit frustrating to see him struggling to find his footing in NXT. Debuting with tremendous hype like so many before him, KUSHIDA bested Kassius Ohno, also like so many before him, before not doing much of anything. KUSHIDA would later be seen in the Dusty Rhodes tag classic reuniting the Time Splitters with Shelly only to lose in the very first round.

Now entrenched in the tournament for the interim Cruiserweight championship, KUSHIDA is an incredible talent that the crowd is salivating to see break out of the pack and distinguish himself. The question is whether or not the WWE will afford him that very opportunity.
