"Macho Man" Randy Savage's dastardly attack of Ricky Steamboat left "The Dragon" on the shelf, his future in the industry unknown following extensive throat injuries.

It looked like the future Hall of Famer would have trouble speaking again, let alone wrestling again. When he was finally cleared to return, he immediately targeted Savage and the Intercontinental Championship that had thus far eluded him.

At WrestleMania III, in front of an announced crowd of 93,173 fans, Steamboat defeated Savage in a brilliant, five-star wrestling match to take the title and avenge his career-threatening attack.

The reaction of the fans in suburban Detroit was simply magical and added to the moment. Not only did they hang on every near-fall, they legitimately wanted Steamboat to beat Savage, to end the egotistical star's reign as IC champion.

That is the sort of emotional investment Vince McMahon would give his right hand for his midcard to elicit today.
