New Japan has had many successful partnerships with other companies over the years, including WWE, but its most fruitful ally in recent history has been Ring Of Honor.

The companies share similar mindsets: long term story-telling, protecting their top champions, and high quality wrestling. At least, we think that's still true of ROH. We haven't seen an episode in a while.

The two companies came together in February 2014 and have done good business with each other ever since.

This partnership allowed top Western indie stars like Adam Cole, Marty Scurll, and Ricochet to compete in Japan and even saw the ROH World Championship defended in a match at Wrestle Kingdom 11.

Equally, Ring of Honor had the benefit of top Japanese stars and factions appearing in their promotion, most notably the Bullet Club, who played a big part in ROH following the deal with New Japan.

This partnership brought new viewers to both products and definitely helped strengthen both of their standings on the global wrestling scene. At one point, this partnership posed a serious threat to WWE's dominance in the US. However, a new threat has emerged in that particular war.

More on them later.
