10 Most Important WWE Moments Of 2014

7. Brock Lesnar "Squashing" John Cena At SummerSlam

After WrestleMania 30 (more on that later), everyone knew that Brock Lesnar would be booked like an absolute monster, and for good reason. John Cena, on the other hand, has made his money by overcoming long odds time and time again. At SummerSlam, everything was in place for Cena to do it yet again. What we ended up getting was the polar opposite. What we got was Lesnar physically dissecting, decimating and destroying Cena for 15 minutes. It turned out to be, arguably, the most lopsided pay-per-view main event in WWE history, but that's what made it so fascinating to watch. Lesnar's beating told a great story, as it painted Cena as a true underdog, and not one that is forced on everyone by WWE's continuously lazy writing. Fans watched and wondered how Cena was supposed to come back from a performance like that. It was the rare occasion of WWE seeing what wrestling fans were expecting, and then delivering on something else entirely. It was also the rare occasion of WWE giving wrestling fans something extraordinary to watch. Sure, you can get good matches, entertaining promos and memorable segments, but fans have seen those types of things before. With Cena VS Lesnar, fans had no choice but to sit back and marvel at how different the match was. Nearly four months later, the match is still talked about, thanks to Lesnar still being the WWE World Champion and Cena being the #1 Contender for the title (unless he loses at TLC).
