10 Most Notorious Edge Urban Legends

9. Wished He'd Chosen A Different Name

Story: On the independent scene, Copeland went by such well-reserved names such as Sexton Hardcastle and Damon Striker. The former sounds like something out of a low-rent, low-budget adult movie, whilst the latter sounds like a discarded character prototype from the Mortal Kombat video game series. After landing in the WWF, 'Edge' was chosen, after much deliberation from both the company and the man himself. Other titles, such as 'Rage' and 'Riot' were thrown out there, but after a lot of back and forth, Edge was the one cemented as first pick. Speaking of the name, Copeland says he really wished he'd chosen one with more syllables, because 'Edge' is hard to incorporate into fan chants. Why People Believe It: Throughout his career, there weren't really all that many memorable moments where Edge was chanted over and over again. Copeland is right, monosyllabic words do not a good chant make - compare this scenario to one such as Steve Austin. Chants such as, 'Let's go Austin, let's go' and simply, 'Austin' were commonplace, whereas fans simply cheered or rained boos down on Edge rather than using his name. Should We Believe It: These are words from the horse's mouth during recent interviews, so it's quite clear that Adam Copeland wishes 'Edge' had been a broader title than it was.
