When we think of title wins in the WWE, it’s easy to remember the major ones.

From Shawn Michaels’ realisation of his 'boyhood dream' in the main event of WrestleMania XII, to Mankind’s win on Monday Night Raw that did indeed "put some butts in seats". Or what about even more recently, in 2015, when Seth Rollins cashed-in his Money in the Bank contract on the grandest stage possible?

Point being, no one’s going to be forgetting about these ones anytime in the near future, especially not thanks to WWE endlessly replaying them in video packages and such.

But would you please spare a thought for the guys and girls whose crowning moments weren’t quite so well publicised.

Whether due to their reigns being ended prematurely, the fact that they were competing in the wrong division, or simply because they went on to achieve bigger and better things, there have been a number of reasons why some title wins have slipped completely under the radar.

This article counts down some of those lesser-known examples and oft-forgotten instances, as we look back at ten of the most obscure title wins in WWE history.

10. Kurt Angle - Hardcore Title

There’s not a whole lot about Kurt Angle’s career that you could accurately describe as obscure apart from, that is, his Hardcore Championship win in September of 2001.

During the infamous Invasion storyline, Angle would face off against Rob Van Dam on the Sep 10th, 2001 showing of Monday Night Raw with the Hardcore Title on the line. In keeping with the tradition of the time, the action soon spilled outside of the ring, where Angle would catch Van Dam in the Ankle Lock and force him to submit for the win.

However, probably the main reason this one’s scarcely remembered is that he only held the title for a matter of minutes. In the immediate aftermath of his win, Stone Cold Steve Austin emerged to toss Angle off the stage, before Van Dam soon followed and covered the champ to quickly regain his belt.

Also, given the amount of other accolades he’s won throughout his career, it’s not too surprising that this ultra-brief reign often goes ignored.
