10 Most Underrated UFC Bouts Of 2019

5. Max Holloway Vs. Frankie Edgar (UFC 240)

After he lost via unanimous decision to Conor McGregor in 2013, Max Holloway made it his mission to dominate the Featherweight division and for nearly six years he remained undefeated in the weight-class.

He would eventually lose his hard-earned Featherweight belt towards the end of 2019 to Alexander Volkanovski. However, his last defence of the title at UFC 240 in July would go down as one of the year's greatest wars of attrition.

Taking on UFC legend Frankie Edgar, Holloway found himself under pressure early on and had to time his attacks to perfection in order to make sure he wasn't caught out by one of the former Lightweight Champion's rapid combinations.

In the second and third rounds, Holloway grew into the fight and began to catch Edgar with some devastating body punches, along with a few particularly dynamic spinning heel kicks.

Edgar held his own throughout the closing rounds, but he struggled to find an opening to put away the Featherweight title holder. Although Holloway undoubtedly became more efficient as the fight unfolded and was supremely accurate in his execution of a typically large volume of clinical hooks and straight rights, he also couldn't score the finish.

A decision victory followed for 'Blessed', but this took nothing away from the UFC veteran who was challenging on the night. Edgar looked competitive and gave Holloway arguably his most difficult fight of his entire Featherweight title reign and this back-and-forth Championship contest between two lethal multi-faceted performers is definitely worth a re-watch.
