1. Adam Cole
At NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III, Adam Cole (BayBay) made his surprise debut for the developmental brand, jumping Drew McIntyre just moments after his NXT title capture to send a clear message of his intentions. Of course, if you thought Cole was signing with NXT to do anything other than challenge for the top title, then you’re probably not too familiar with his résumé.
A quick rundown through his various accolades reveals he’s the only three-time ROH World Champion in the promotion’s fifteen-year history, a former PWG Champion, winner of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s 2010 Rookie of the Year award, while he also ranked at number 9 in 2014's PWI 500. Phew.
Long story short, Cole’s already had a decorated career. And what’s more, he’s only just turned 28.
Even before the events of NXT Brooklyn, it was clear Cole would be portrayed as a big deal in NXT. And if all goes according to plan, he’ll likely establish himself as a similarly big deal once he deservedly makes his way to the main roster.
I guess the only way you could argue against Cole being the “next big thing” is to say he’s already exceeded that kind of tagline, and that he’s closer to being what you'd call the current big thing. Doesn't quite have the same ring to it though, does it...
