Story: Surprises in WWE are hard to do sometimes. Thanks to wrestling websites and apparently a lot of people backstage in WWE willing to spread news around, it's hard to keep things quiet. In late 2008, there was an angle done where Jeff Hardy was mysteriously attacked with nobody identified as the attacker. That got the wheels in motion. It was known online that Christian was coming back to WWE in early 2009 and the assumption was he would interfere in Jeff's match with Edge for the World Title. Jeff was challenging Edge, so Christian could make the return to help Edge win back the World Title. As the match was going on, fans were chanting "We Want Christian" because obviously a lot of people read online reports, so they made their voices heard. Apparently WWE was aware of this, so they decided to change things up. Instead of Christian costing Jeff the World Title and reuniting with his best friend Edge, it was Matt Hardy that came out and destroyed Jeff with a steel chair to cost him the match. Meanwhile, Christian's return was held off for a few months as he returned on the ECW brand. It was a lot less impactful than a big angle with one of the top faces in the company. The question is, was this ever really the plan? Some say yes. Others are not so sure. Why People Believe It: It was a logical storyline that would have done really well. Fans like logical storylines. Take note of that, WWE. Should We Believe It: This one appears to be true although there's no way of really proving it. It's not like management is going to say that was the plan. We haven't really heard anything from Christian about it. It's probably a legit story and not something that was just made up since it sounded like a good idea. It would have been awesome if it actually happened.
