Has any wrestler had a bigger fall from grace this year than Sammy Guevara?

The backlash against the real-life romance between Sammy and Tay Melo has been a little pathetic, because it's purely based on jealousy. Two very attractive, successful people are in a relationship and clearly having a lovely time. How dare they?

But there is a fine line between celebrating it and rubbing it in people's faces, and the way Tony Khan presented the duo in the first half of this year is one of his biggest mistakes as a booker. Let's make this clear: Sammy Guevara didn't turn heel.

The fans turned him heel.

At the backend of last year, during the in-fighting and eventual break up of the Inner Circle, the three-time TNT Champion was a beloved babyface. As one of the pillars of the company and the reigning champion, the fans loved Sammy. But his natural arrogance soon turned the tide, and he and Melo just didn't connect as a likable duo.

Since then, there have been multiple instances of Guevara's backstage behaviour that have come to light, such as his needless body shaming of Eddie Kingston (who got suspended for smacking Sammy) and the vitriol he spat at Andrade (who got sent home for smacking Sammy).

Having a punchable face is great for a heel - just ask Dominik Mysterio - but this act now has 'go away heat', and it's hard to see what the duo can do to get fans back onside.
