8. Marvel's World Championship Wrestling Is (Mostly) Redundant
On the opposite end of the spectrum to the UCWF was Marvel's early nineties "adaptation" of the WCW. Deciding to just be a straight-up continuation of the wrestling kids were watching on TV, World Championship Wrestling: The Comic Book had all the rivalries, backstage drama and in-the-ring action as the show and...not a lot else. Which was sort of pointless, because it didn't mostly didn't take advantage of the comic book form, and the monthly release schedule meant most of the storylines and competitions it tapped into were over and done with on the screen by the time they came out. Still, it had its moments. Some of the fights benefited from the dynamic action choreography of the sort that works a lot better on the page than in real life, we got to see what Jim Ross would look live in the Marvel Universe (oh yeah, there were commentators in this comic that you read), there was an issue where Cactus Jack and Sting fought on a cruise liner, and Johnny B Badd featured heavily. Johnny B Badd is always fun. Borderline-offensive fun.
