10 Shocking WCW Plans You Won't Believe Almost Happened
7. Ric Flair Almost Became A Roman Soldier
Given that the man is still talked about now, it seems impossible to imagine that people thought Ric Flair was old hat in the early-90's. That's exactly what then-boss of WCW, Jim Herd thought about the 'Nature Boy', but he had one big concept that could help rectify the situation. Instead of coming to the ring adorned in his trademark robes, Herd wanted Flair to cut his hair and become a Gladiator called Spartacus. This fact makes for completely ludicrous reading now, because Flair would go on to wrestle full-time for another 17 years or so. Incredibly, the pro wrestling legend did actually cut off much of his bleach-blonde locks, but that was as far as he was willing to go. Herd's plan would have alienated much of the fan base, who still went wild for Ric Flair. To put things into perspective, a modern-day equivalent would be if Vince McMahon suddenly decided The Undertaker should dye his hair blonde and pretend to be a marine. It's not hard to picture the negative response from fans if such a thing were to happen. That was the kind of thing facing Flair and WCW in the early-90's, and it's a good thing the idea never went any further.
