'Isn't wrestling fake?'. There isn't a wrestling fan on the planet that hasn't been asked that question. It is, more often than not, used as a way to make us feel bad about watching wrestling. That we're stupid because we're watching something and, oh didn't you know? It's not real. Of course it's not real. Kayfabe is dead and there aren't many fans who would try and argue the opposite. We don't care that it's not real. If we wanted 'reality', we'd watch something else, right? Saying that, wrestling hasn't exactly done its fans many favours over the years. We have been subject to some incredibly cheesy, 'fake-looking' television, the type of stuff that wrestling's detractors can point and laugh at and use as ammunition against it. Come on, who feels proud to be a wrestling fan when they see something like The Gobbledy Gooker or 2009-era DX on their screens? In spite of wrestling's inherent cheesiness (it is men in tights pretending to fight each other, after all), there are still those rare angles and moments where wrestling does something shockingly realistic. These are the moments that fans use to show the naysayers that, see, it's not as fake as you think, is it? If you know somebody who is giving you a hard time over your decision to watch wrestling, fire up YouTube or the WWE Network and show them one of these angles. Then we'll see what's 'fake'.
