10 Steps To Improve WWE Survivor Series 2022’s Build
4. Plight Of Champions
In spite of the quality of Survivor Series' various ‘Champion versus Champion’ matches since the brand split, the magnitude of a PPV centred on RAW and SmackDown’s corresponding champions going head to head deserves better stakes than “brand supremacy” and wounded pride.
Working toward this end, future editions should see every champion put their individual reigns on the chopping block. Winning champions would log another successful defense in the record books while the losing title is vacated. The next champions in succession would be determined through a series of tournaments (something at which WWE has proven themselves quite proficient) culminating with new champions at WWE Day One.
There might be some preliminary resistance to this method, as it would have resulted in the end of Big E's WWE Championship reign had it been adopted this year, but it also provides more than a few readymade silver linings. Not only does it produce better contests by lighting a fire under every single champion on the roster not to lose their match at Survivor Series, but it infuses fresh faces into four different title pictures to kick off the Road to WrestleMania. It also motivates the former champions to blaze a path through anyone who dares keep them from regaining their lost championships.
Of course, this revised formula won’t be as effective if a card produces results as lopsided as 2018 and results in every champion on one brand walking away empty handed, which feeds into another needed adjustment in Survivor Series' presentation.
