10 Strangest Times Wrestlers Turned Up In Character Outside Of Wrestling
7. Steve Austin Vs Mr McMahon - Celebrity Deathmatch
In the late 1990s through the early 2000s, MTV capitalized on the buzz sports entertainment generated by creating a parody show called Celebrity Deathmatch. It was a clay stop-motion ("claymation") pro-wrestling-styled show that pitted celebrities in grudge matches, involving outrageous violence, barbaric weapons, and inhumane injuries. Oh, and also deaths, as the name would have led you to believe.
Over the years, several WWE stars made appearances on the show. The Undertaker once showed up to beat a demon named Captain Doody out of announcer Nick Diamond's son. Mankind also popped up to build a time machine so he could face his literary hero Ernest Hemingway.
But the most popular of all appearances came from Steve Austin and Mr McMahon. Austin started to show up on Celebrity Deathmatch to commentate. During a backstage interview, Stone Cold started laying into his WWE employer, which prompted the 'Genetic Jackhammer' to interrupt and call Austin out.
The two fought in an ultra-violent match, leading to a massacred billionaire being stuffed piece by piece into a casket. What made this showdown so special was that it coincided with an actual WWE storyline. While neither 'Taker nor Mick Foley based their rivalries on battles on WWE creative, the Austin vs McMahon feud was the stuff of legends.
