10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Eddie Guerrero

2. His Best Friend Was Chris Benoit

What a bitter-sweet moment the ending of WrestleMania XX is. Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit, two best friends who had to work exceptionally hard and overcome a host of obstacles just to be taken seriously in the business, were the World Heavyweight and WWE Champions. As the confetti rained down in MSG, even the most jaded fan would find it hard not to smile and feel proud of them. The 'vanilla midgets', the men who had been told time and time again that they wouldn't make it, were on top of the wrestling world. It was storybook stuff. Three-and-a-half years later, both men would be dead. Chris Benoit was Eddie Guerrero's support system (and vice-versa). Two men completely dedicated to wrestling, they would lean on each other for emotional support during their darkest days. Having first met in 1992 in Japan, they would travel to ECW, WCW and finally the WWE together. Benoit is (rightfully) persona non grata in WWE. He is never mentioned or promoted in any way (besides in title histories on WWE.com). If you search for Chris Benoit on the Network, you will get 'no results'. WWE definitely wants you to forget that Eddie, loveable performer whose matches have been lionised, was ever best friends with Chris Benoit, child murderer whose matches have been buried.
