10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Melina
Melina will be hoping for a little less drama if and when she returns to the wacky world of WWE.
Former WWE Women's and Divas Champion Melina may have shot down rumours about a return to the company, but don't be fooled. 2020 is no ordinary year, and the pro wrestling business is no ordinary world. With a draft around the corner, what price a return to the WWE TV for one of the most controversial female performers in recent history?
Melina's first run with the company was as notorious for backstage stories as it was onscreen successes. Initially booked as part of the underrated MNM trio, she eventually broke out as a singles star, bounced back and forth between heel and face roles and picked up titles in the process. Bret Hart called her one of the best wrestlers on the planet, but he was one of the few to have positive words to say about the Paparazzi Princess.
Her time was wrought with catty accusations and rumours of heat, of unprofessional behaviour, and a worrying penchant for allowing backstage disagreements to make their way to the screen no matter how damaging they may have been to her career. Melina was a bright star that often threatened to burn everything in its path, with former boyfriend John Morrison seemingly dragged along for the ride. Love, you cruel mistress you.
It remains to be seen whether Melina will return to WWE or not, but there are an abundance of things that both parties will look to leave in the past if she does find herself on WWE TV once more.
10. Lita Kicked Her Out Of The Locker Room
Imagine getting kicked out of a locker room? That takes a special type of personality. You could argue that it might be the result of an uptight locker room, but such claims carry little weight. WWE's history is full of wrestlers who faced the ignominy of being forced to change alone, men and women who irritated their colleagues to this drastic point.
Melina's first run with WWE was full of backstage rumours of molten heat, so it shouldn't be a great shock to learn of her stint in the figurative cold. According to PW Torch, WWE Hall of Famer Lita took the decision to kick Melina out of the locker room, forcing her to change in the hallway when the heat became too much. Little more is known about the incident, but nobody is denying it.
The inherent contradictory hypocrisy of WWE culture is alive and well with this one. New talent is constantly told to simultaneously respect veterans while being encouraged to ruffle feathers, carving their own niche while standing patiently in line. That tightrope isn't easy to toe, and the first incarnation of Melina found herself on the hot side more often than not.
