10 Times Triple H’s Ego Ran Wild In WWE
8. The Curtain Call
An entirely boneheaded move, the Curtain Call incident saw Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall embrace in the ring following a Madison Square Garden house show main event. The Kliq designed it as a send-off for Hall and Nash, who were on their way to WCW. The problem was that Hunter and HBK were playing babyface at the time, while the future Outsiders were heels, so kayfabe was shattered, and Vince McMahon was fuming.
While Michaels was the company golden boy (and therefore bulletproof), Triple H was punished immediately. Vince scrapped plans to have Hunter win King Of The Ring '96, with Steve Austin triumphing instead, and he was shunted to the midcard when he should've been strapped to the rocket. His main event run would come eventually, but the Curtain Call set it back by a year.
It was driven entirely by ego. The Kliq decided that they wanted to be the show, and thus, they went off-script. The blame can't be entirely pinned on a single member's shoulders, but as part of the scheming group, Triple H is as complicit as anyone.
