10 Times We Couldn't Figure Out What The F*** WWE Was Thinking

Those moments that made you wonder what the f*** was going in the sports entertainment world.

As a wrestling fan, or more specifically someone dedicated to taking in all things WWE, it's not entirely uncommon to find yourself scratching your head and wondering what in the holy hell you've just witnessed going down in the middle of a squared-circle; or outside of it, for that matter.

However, even the most insane of sports entertainment developments have a funny old habit of eventually making even just a little bit of sense later down the road.

Take the call to rapidly squash Bianca Belair at SummerSlam 2021, for example. Sure, in the moment, fans were left cursing Vince McMahon and his cronies for burying their EST inside of Allegiant Stadium. But come WrestleMania 38, the superhuman babyface epically got her win back over Becky Lynch and formed one half of arguably the strongest showing of the entire weekend.

It all (sort of) worked in the end.

The same sadly could not be said of the following simply baffling pieces of WWE business, though.

So, from deeply uncomfortable storyline developments, to horrible attempts to recapture the magic of old, these are those times when fans had no choice but to question what in the flying fudge Vince, Trips, and the rest of the folks calling the WWE shots were thinking.

10. JBL Vs. Godzilla

Coming in the thick of the pair's rivalry over the WWE Championship in early 2005, JBL thought the best way to keep from having to fight the Big Show inside of a barbed-wire steel cage at No Way Out was to shoot the giant with a tranquilliser gun on SmackDown.

So far, so sports entertainment.

One thing led to another, the champ ended up being blasted instead, and a supposedly disorientated JBL then proceeded to wander around backstage and pick fights with inflatable dinosaurs.

And with this particular edition of the blue show going down in Japan, someone clearly thought it would be a hilarious move to have the heelish, out-of-sorts Bradshaw take his blow-up Godzilla down to the ring and begin referencing how the folks in attendance, who "eat noodles", were scared of the big lizard.

You can literally hear Vince McMahon erupting with glee in Gorilla at the sight of JBL stripping down to his pink undies as an unsure audience can't decide whether to awkwardly laugh or boo the surreal scenario.

Of course, the entire thing turned out to be little more than a ruse designed to catch Show off-guard. But not even an admittedly ferocious giant toppling of JBL's Cabinet could keep folks from wondering how this deeply unfunny show-long sketch managed to make it past the pitching stage on the Road to WrestleMania 21.
