5. Tazz – ECW Champion

When Mike Awesome signed on the dotted line with WCW in 2000, the acquisition set off a cataclysmic chain reaction that would bring about one of the most unique events in pro wrestling history.

As reigning ECW Champion at the time of his WCW debut, to say Awesome was in hot water with Paul Heyman would be quite the understatement. At a time when ECW’s hatred for WCW was unrivalled, Heyman – ever the creative genius – would turn a negative into a positive and use the situation to strengthen his working relationship with the WWF.

The decision was made to have Tazz defeat Awesome at the next available opportunity and the unfathomable situation took place where a WWF superstar challenged a WCW wrestler for the ECW Championship. Tazz would defeat Awesome with the Tazzmission in less than two minutes, inconceivably leaving ECW’s top prize squarely in the hands of the competition.

In the week that followed, Tazz incredibly appeared on WWF TV wearing the ECW Championship. Not so incredibly, Vince booked the ECW Champ to lose each match he took part in during the short run, including a telling pinfall loss to WWF Champion, Triple H, in a “Title vs. Title” bout on SmackDown.

Tazz inevitably returned to ECW TV to drop the title to Tommy Dreamer at the ECW Arena the following week and normality was restored. For the time being...
