10 Times Wrestlers Botched Their Biggest Moment

1. Mabel

Papa Shango
WWE

If Mabel achieved anything in WWE, it is an unbroken reign as the consensus worst-ever King of the Ring. He won despite the 1995 tournament featuring the likes of Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker (who Mabel pinned in the quarterfinals). It was a bizarre choice to attempt to make a main-eventer out of a so-so tag team wrestler.

The misplaced push materialised as such during Mabel’s shot at Diesel’s WWE Championship at SummerSlam 1995.

The main event was a slow affair comprised of heavy laboured strikes rather than anything close to wrestling. Diesel, to his credit, did all he could, but Mabel lacked the technique and stamina to match his opponent. His offence was lacklustre, with only his leg drop manoeuvres able to provide a genuine wince from fans. Unfortunately, one of these attacks legitimately hurt Diesel, inflicting severe abdominal strain.

'Big Daddy Cool' retained with a flying clothesline, knocking Mabel back down the card. Behind the scenes, he gained a reputation for being unsafe and was almost fired, only being spared by his SummerSlam opponent going to bat for him with Vince McMahon.

Nelson Frazier, Jr.s career stagnated until 1999 when he was forcibly inducted into The Ministry of Darkness and rechristened Viscera.
