10 Times Wrestling And Animals Didn't Mix
1. Harley Race Vs. A Chicken
Well, this is ridiculous.
The 1987 Slammys saw many crazy moments. The second ever edition of the kayfabe award ceremony is perhaps most famous for Vince McMahon's now-iconic performance of "Stand Back", as well as the entire WWF roster singing "If You Only Knew".
It also featured a show-long story line of a brawl between 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan and 'King' Harley Race, who were feuding at the time. The scrap took place throughout the night in various different locations, including a random spot backstage where a load of farm animals were running around.
At some point in the fight, Race grabbed a helpless chicken by the neck. Now, this is already dodgy ground in terms of animal rights, but Race clearly thought "in for a penny, in for a pound", as his next move was to hit Duggan with the chicken.
Unsurprisingly, this killed the bird instantly.
Regardless of your views on animal welfare, you have to wonder what's going on in the mind of someone who is willing to hit another man with a live chicken. On syndicated television no less.
It's perhaps not surprising that they chose to leave this out of Harley's Hall of Fame induction.
