You just can't catch a break with Hulk Hogan, can you?

When Triple H tore his left quad in May 2001 and got sidelined for a long time, it proved to be a blessing in disguise as he managed to miss out on the entire messy Invasion angle. The fans welcomed him back with a thunderous ovation when he returned in January 2002, and WWE capitalized on "The Game's" red-hot momentum by having him win that year's Royal Rumble match.

Triple H captured the Undisputed WWE Championship from Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 18 and had all it takes to have a lengthy title reign. But guess who went on his way to ruin everything? Exactly!

Hulk Hogan, unfortunately, had also gained some momentum after his face turn at the time, resulting in Vince McMahon announcing him as the No.1 contender for Triple H's title.

Long story short, Hogan defeated Triple H at Backlash 2002 to win the title. However, it turned out to be a mistake as Hulkamania started to run out of steam, which led to his exit the following year. In simple terms, WWE sacrificed Triple H's momentum for nothing.
