10 Ups & 7 Downs For AEW In 2020 (So Far)

Ups...

10. The Doctor Will See You Now

Britt Baker
AEW

Britt Baker's failed babyface run as the intended female ace of AEW could have left her buried, though the good doctor has since undergone a complete career reinvention, emerging as the most consistently entertaining character in the promotion since turning heel in January.

To watch Baker's material is to undergo a crash course in how to play a deluded villain. The turn has revealed layers of charisma invisible while Britt was playing face, with the 'Role Model' shtick turning Britt into the marketable, heat-drawing commodity the division desperately needed as 2019 rolled into 2020. Ridiculous, over-the-top, and so far up her own backside she can likely see her own tonsils, Baker is a treasure, and whether she's worsening Tony Schiavone's Stockholm Syndrome or getting lobbed in bins by Big Swole, she's killing it right now.

The caveat to all this is that the in-ring work isn't on the same level as the gimmick yet. This will come with time, though. For now, Baker is nailing things that can't always be taught, which is a lot more valuable in the long run.
