10 Ways AEW Has ALREADY Made Wrestling History

9. Christian Cage Wins The Impact Title On AEW: Rampage

With history already being made simply by the fact that this was the first ever AEW: Rampage, and moreover, that this was the first match in Rampage's existence, it was a brilliant bit of booking to have Christian Cage go over Kenny Omega to relieve the belt collector of his Impact World Championship(s).

Omega had been proudly wearing the Impact world title and the unified TNA World Heavyweight Championship on both AEW and Impact Wrestling programming since April, as well as his AEW World Championship and the AAA Mega Championship, and would suffer defeat following a Killswitch on a steel chair.

The two specific historical moments this entry refers to are, firstly, that Christian Cage had never actually held either the Impact World Championship, nor the TNA World Heavyweight Championship before, despite being the company's world champion.

Cage actually held the NWA World Heavyweight Championship during his two title reigns, and lost the belt to the first official TNA World Heavyweight Champion, Kurt Angle.

Secondly, this victory marked the first and only time that either the TNA or Impact world title changed hands at a non-TNA/Impact event.
