10 Ways Finn Balor’s Injury Affects WWE
A new champion and new challengers, but possibly no longer a "new era"...
I guess there’s only really one way in which Finn Balor’s injury
affects the WWE and that's badly.
Obviously there’s a whole more to it than that, but whichever way you dissect this news it does not look good for the company. Four weeks ago, they were handing a debut on Monday Night Raw to the hottest prospect from their developmental ranks. Now, that very same prospect is facing a lengthy period out of action and has been forced to relinquish his newly-acquired WWE Universal Championship.
Raw is now without its star man, without its top champion and without a smile on its proverbial face.
Beyond a mere lack of any smiles though, what kind of impact can we expect to see off the back of this latest news? Who’s this development going to affect, how’s it going to affect them, and what might it mean for future plans in the coming weeks and months?
This article looks to answer some of those questions as we delve into some of the ways in which Finn Balor’s injury affects WWE going forward.
10. So Much For The New Era…
Since the return of the WWE Draft, much has been made of
this 'New Era' that we currently find ourselves in.
Beyond Finn Balor though, there hasn’t really been a great deal of freshness on the Raw roster at all. While SmackDown acquired the likes of American Alpha, Mojo Rawley, Alexa Bliss, and Carmella, Raw really only managed to sign Balor, Nia Jax, and Jinder Mahal - and Jinder can hardly be classed as a new face.
With Finn Balor now out of the equation, there’s not a lot left that’s truly “new” about the Raw personnel, particularly on the male side of the roster. Sure, we’ve still got all those changes to the presentation to consider, but in terms of the actual in-ring element it’s looking like just we’ll be getting more of the same with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns at the top of the show's card.
It may not necessarily be a bad thing but neither is it particularly fresh. Suddenly, without Finn Balor the New Era on Raw is starting to look a lot like the old one…
