As fans slowly return to wrestling shows, WWE are setting the groundwork for one of their biggest shows of the modern era.

WrestleMania 37 was a triumphant success, well received by both fans and critics alike. So, with SummerSlam 2-21 just around the corner, how should WWE proceed?

SummerSlam is always one of the biggest shows of the year, only surpassed by WrestleMania and Royal Rumble - but things are different this year. By all accounts, WWE is looking to deliver a tentpole event in Las Vegas.

For WWE, this will be their grand return. Following the event, the company is rumoured to push forward on all cylinders, both creatively and financially.

There's a lot of hype for this show. The Biggest Party of the Summer needs to feel like we are transitioning out of the ThunderDome Era and back into normality. Sure, Vince McMahon has been eager to do this since the early days of the pandemic, but now feels like the right time.

Both WrestleMania 37 and AEW's Double Or Nothing 2021 have shown how important fans are to professional wrestling - and SummerSlam 2021 marks a full-fledged return to that universe. Here's how to maximise it...

10. Women's Tag Team Tournament

After the release of numerous female talents, WWE is struggling when it comes to their women's tag division. With the likes of Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan, Lana and The IIconics all gone, the main roster is short-staffed when it comes to that division.

Random pairings may not be the way forward in the long run, but for this instance, it works. WWE need to hold a long-form tournament leading into SummerSlam. This form of storytelling would focus on what the competitors do best: wrestling.

Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke are talented in-ring performers but cutting promos is not in their wheelhouse. Instead, allow them to simply wrestle week to week and get over in that capacity.

The same goes for the Women's Tag Team Champions. Natalya and Tamina are not gifted promos. Natalya, on the other hand, is a stellar in-ring worker and genuinely one of the best female wrestlers WWE have got. The overwhelming recent fan support behind Tamina would be enough to carry her through a tournament as well.

A few thrown together teams, NXT call-ups and some basic storytelling may be enough to salvage what's left of this division as it limps through to SummerSlam.
