10 Weird Wrestling Matches That Drew Incredible TV Ratings

3. Meat vs. Test (Raw - 17 May 1999) - 6.2

Again, 1999 was not a good year for World Championship Wrestling.

On 17 May, Nitro's big rundown of the Slamboree pay-per-view that had just happened drew a measly 2.4 quarter hour rating. That becomes more depressing for WCW lovers when realising that recaps of matches like Kevin Nash vs. DDP and Sting vs. Goldberg went up against Meat.

Somehow, a fresh-faced Test (who was thrilling nobody as part of The Union back then) and Shawn Stasiak, working one of the worst gimmicks ever, outscored WCW by over four full points. Test vs. the oversexed Meat character drew a 6.2, presumably because people were intrigued to see what might happen with Terri Runnels, Jacqueline and Ryan Shamrock at ringside.

The Undertaker's Casket Match with The Rock might have been cited as the reason for this strangely high rating, had it not taken place in a different quarter. Without that, there's no reasonable way of explaining why Test vs. Meat popped the ratings.
