The grizzled veteran at a career crossroads, unsure of whether or not he will be invited to the biggest show of the year after yet another disappointing loss, is a new twist on Cena's old babyface character. He is frustrated, beaten down, emotionally broken. The superstar who has experienced success unlike any ever before now finds himself in a scenario in which he doubts his abilities.

Everyone and their mother know Cena is heading for WrestleMania, where he will work a high-profile match that reflects his status as the franchise star of WWE.

His performance in this latest story, complete with the look of disbelief on his face after he lost another championship opportunity, has been stellar to this point. It is a testament to Cena that he is finding new ways to build sympathy for himself among the WWE fans besides simply taking an ass-kicking before a fiery five moves-fueled comeback.

Say what you will about WWE's golden boy but he has done an extraordinary job of telling the story he has been given ahead of what may be one of his final WrestleMania appearances.
