1. The Rock vs. John Cena II - WrestleMania XXIX
The very first match between the Rock and John Cena at Wrestlemania XXVIII was promoted as "once in a lifetime" and the ultimate battle between generations. That is, until it happened again the next year. At the previous year's Wrestlemania, the Rock defeated John Cena in the main event of the show, getting a huge reaction from the hardcore fans in attendance who see the Rock as their savior from Cena's kiddie act. When the Rock defeated CM Punk for the WWE title, every single longtime fan could see what was coming and absolutely no one wanted to see it. Heading into Wrestlemania XXIX in East Rutherford, New Jersey, it was the worst kept secret in the world that John Cena was going to get his win back on the Rock. In the year building to the match, Cena supposedly had the "worst year of his life". According to Cena, his loss to the Rock started a downward spiral that caused him to lose a match to John Laurinaitis, get beat up by Brock Lesnar, lose repeatedly to CM Punk, and get divorced. Of course, WWE left the part out about Cena immediately starting to date the smoking hot Nikki Bella after his divorce but hey, why ruin a story with the truth, right? Absolutely no one in attendance that night expected the Rock to walk out with the WWE title and no one wanted to see John Cena hoist the belt at the end of the night. The match was very similar to the year before and the Rock's ring rust was readily apparent. The two men traded finishers near the end of the match and, after three Attitude Adjustments, Cena pinned the Rock to become WWE champion once again in finish no one over the age of 15 wanted to see. In order to quell the boos of the live crowd, the Rock hugged Cena and raised his arm before heading off into the sunset. However, with or without the Rock's endorsement of his win, everyone was pretty damn sick of John Cena. As evidence, this edition of Wrestlemania drew 200,000 less buys than the previous year.
