10 WrestleMania Matches That Surpassed All Expectations
7. Stone Cold Vs. The Rock (WrestleMania XIX)
Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock and low expectations don't normally go hand-in-hand, and - let's be very clear - there weren't many fans who piled into the Safeco Field for WrestleMania XIX anticipating a poor spectacle.
But there was good reason to suppose this one might fail to live up to the standard set by their previous encounters, the most obvious of them being that Austin, owing to a persistent neck injury, was clearly on his last legs as a performer.
Even if we weren't entirely clear on the fact that this would be the very last match he ever fought, it had been a long time since he had really put in a show-stealing performance (in terms of singles competition, you probably had to go back to his clash with Kurt Angle at SummerSlam '01).
Throw in the fact that The Rock was imminently set to depart to Hollywood full-time, and this one could - in a parallel universe - have ended up falling ever-so-slightly flat. But, thankfully, both of them dug super deep, and produced a match worthy of gracing any stage in the world.
