10 WrestleMania Matches That Surpassed All Expectations

2. Shawn Michaels Vs. Vince McMahon (WrestleMania 22)

The third and final time that Vince McMahon defied the odds on the Grandest Stage of Them All came in 2006, a match that he fought at the ripe old age of 60-years-old (his action figure-like biceps still no less impressive).

Like his previous two encounters, this one was less an exhibition in technical wrestling than it was an old-fashioned slobber-knocker, both men - having ostensibly hated each other for years (Bret Hart might have had something to say about that) - determined that their opponent would end the night in hospital.

Given that Vince had already performed this trick twice before, you might be tempted to conclude that expectations weren't surpassed here, but merely met. However, that ignores that this one was the best of his three 'Mania matches, taking things up another level from bouts one and two.

In truth, the WWE chairman has never looked better than when he was sharing the ring with Shawn Michaels, and considering that many went into this event irked at the fact that the Showstopper wasn't placed higher up the card, many were left eating their words.
