10 Wrestlers Having A Disappointing 2022
2. Ronda Rousey
From her show-stealing debut match at WrestleMania 34 to the following year’s 'Mania main event, Ronda Rousey had an all-timer of a rookie year. She dominated the Raw women’s division as a legitimate badass, bringing both star power and real sports credibility to the market leading promotion.
It’s true that she also managed to turn a large section of the fanbase against her by the end of her all-too-short run. Even that worked out though, as leaning in to the heel role made it all the more thrilling to watch Becky Lynch beat her in front of a stadium crowd.
It might be a cliché to say time heals all wounds but it seems to hold true when it comes to wrestling returns. With Ronda taking time away to start a family, fans soon clamoured for her to return and give the women’s division a much needed boost.
So, her return at this year’s Royal Rumble was a cause for celebration. But, since then, her performances have failed to match expectations as she struggles to recapture her previous form. A little ring rust is to be expected, but Rowsey’s felt badly miscast as a babyface and been shaky on the mic. Currently Ronda is a shadow of the “Rowdy One” who was so impressive a few years back.
