10 Wrestlers That Tragically Turned To Drugs

Too many of our favourite superstars die young. More often than not there is one thing in common with all of their demises...

Professional Wrestling and drugs are two entities that mix far too often for anyone's liking. They overlap due to a couple of factors, the most obvious of which is pain. Wrestling fans are pretty unforgiving when it comes to injuries and fatigue. They pay their money to see their favourite superstars perform their signature moves. Hulk Hogan for one is constantly bemoaning the fact he didn't change his finisher to the Sleeper hold. It would've made sense for the man with the largest arms in the world to utilize the Sleeper to send his opponents to sleep, right? Instead, he crippled his spine by delivering thousands of Atomic Leg drops. The other main factor is time. Wrestlers are constantly travelling, and one skill they need to excel at is the ability to kill time. Waiting in airports, hotel rooms and arenas around the world is part of the job for our favourite superstars and especially during wrestling's boom in the 90s, superstars were hard pressed to find anything to stave off boredom. There wasn't any smartphones, laptops, tablets or portable consoles back then so wrestlers were left with three main options while sat in their hotel rooms: Drink, drugs or playing cards. This article looks at those who tragically died as a result of option number two.
