While they both most definitely found success as babyface entities earlier on in their WWE runs, there's no question that Edge & Lita's stock rose to a whole new level on the back of some real-life drama kicking off a spell of widespread rejection from the fandom.
With the legitimate behind-the-scenes chaos caused by Lita and Matt Hardy's relationship breaking down due to the former's affair with Edge being made public by Hardy in April 2005, Lita in particular started to see her popularity take a nosedive.
Sensing that there could still be a positive to be found in such a toxic and uncomfortable scenario, though, the villainous duo fully embraced their roles as the most hated twosome in the company, with Edge later noting how he used the constant sound of boos being sent his way as "fuel", admitting to Sam Roberts' Wrestling Podcast:
"...my mindset was, 'we're here now, so I'm going to use this and try if you want to think you know me, I'm going to use this to fuel, if you want to hate me, I'll give you reasons.'”
