10 Wrestlers Who Gambled On A New Catchphrase

1. What?

Steve Austin once used his absurd sense of humour to torment Christian, by leaving messages on his answering machine, in which he would say "What?" as if Christian had left him a message he couldn't comprehend. There were no such messages. Steve Austin was the greatest; in addition to being a megastar workhorse, and hating what Stephanie McMahon did to WWE creative, he is also a surrealist comedian.

He is also the goddamn worst, because after a few quite amusing bits - Austin's deadpan was both funny and quite terrifying - the fans took to it. They took to it far too much. In fact, fans somehow contrived to ruin bad scripted promos (!) by ceaselessly chanting "What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What?" with a profound obnoxiousness.

This insufferable bullsh*t has ruined a significant portion of the modern WWE experience, and everybody who has engaged in the practise is almost guaranteed to be an awful person. They'll shout WHAT at the guy cutting the promo, and chant 'Thank you Vince' whenever the guy who makes them say those words appears onscreen.

Stupid guy shouldn't have walked in front of the car!

Was it successful?

Yes, but then, nuclear bombs are successful.
