10 Wrestlers Who Refused To Drop Titles
4. John Cena Refused To Lose WWE Championship To Jack Swagger
The stats might be different now, but in 2010, the Money in the Bank contract holders had a 100% record of successfully cashing in their contracts to become world champions.
Jack Swagger had the same odds when he won the MITB ladder match at WrestleMania 26, and he pulled off a successful cash-in against Chris Jericho to win the World Heavyweight Championship. However, the World title wasn't the first choice WWE had in mind for Swagger's cash-in as the company had an idea for Swagger to defeat John Cena for the WWE Championship.
While talking to Chris Jericho on the Talk is Jericho podcast, Swagger revealed that after the segment in which he tried to cash in the contract on John Cena on Raw, he learned that Cena had refused to drop the title to him.
Swagger captured the World Heavyweight Championship and held on to it for 82 days before dropping it to Rey Mysterio. However, since WWE failed to do anything memorable with the reign, most modern WWE fans don't even remember Swagger being a former World champion.
