There are plenty of situations and scenarios where wrestlers have refused to lose over the years. Look to Hulk Hogan beating Shawn Michaels clean at SummerSlam (2005) even though HBK was an active wrestler on Raw every week or Stone Cold Steve Austin getting so fed up with creative that he walked out on WWE when they booked him to lose to ‘The Next Big Thing’ Brock Lesnar on Raw or Survivor Series (2017) where Bret Hart rejected every idea the WWF threw at him for Shawn to go over.

Pro wrestling is scripted/predetermined but Superstars take great care in making sure their characters remain strong and over on TV. Fragile egos runs rampant in the wrasslin’ business, as Vince McMahon and other promoters have extensively learnt from experience. There’s a blurred line between character and performer, hence the egos.

Issues commonly arise about the outcome of a match. CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose for example thought it was moronic Punk was booked to win over The Shield at the TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs PPV (2013) in a 3-on-1 handicap match but they couldn’t get the finish changed.

There are known cases though of wrestlers refusing no matter what to win a match. Where wrestlers feel so strongly about losing that they won’t accept any other outcome.

Let’s look at 10 instances where wrestlers have straight-up refused to win...
