If you were to say to a WWE fan that a former member of Retribution had had a five-star match, they'd probably pass out from laughing so much. However, fans of indie wrestling in the mid-2010s will know exactly who you mean.

Before he was T-Bar or even Dominik Dijakovic in NXT, he was Donovan Dijak and he was flourishing in promotions like Ring of Honor and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. It was in the latter that Dijak had his first and thus far only five-star match with another man who was severely mistreated in WWE.

Dijak came up against Keith Lee in the quarter-finals of PWG's annual Battle of Los Angeles (BOLA) tournament and it was by far the best match of the night. Lee defeated Dijak to advance, but the real winners were the fans who had gotten to witness such a classic. Clearly, Dave was a fan too, giving PWG just their second five-star match in their history.

Despite his current predicament, at least Dijak has this memory to look back on fondly. Although, to be honest, that probably won't be worth much when he remembers what that mask looked like.
